If you're a passionate Trophy hunter like this scribe, the following story is
about to really get on your nerves.
Assassin's Creed Valhalla has separate
Trophy lists for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions of the game,
meaning if you started out on what is now Sony's last-gen console before
switching to the brand spanking new one, you'll need to unlock the trinkets all
over again. With no sign of auto-popping insight, that also includes the
Trophies you already unlocked on PS4. How rubbish is that? Some may see this as
an opportunity to get two Platinum Trophies out of a single game, but given the
mammoth size of Assassin's Creed Valhalla, that's only really feasible if you
ignore virtually every other PS5 launch title. It really is that long of a game.
Kinda Funny's Greg Miller broke the news on Twitter this morning as PS5 consoles
went on sale in select territories, with Giant Bomb's Jeff Gerstmann following
up saying they haven't seen a single game combining PS4 and PS5 versions into a
single Trophy list. This functionality was actually present at the start of the
PS4 generation with many cross-gen titles which also came to PlayStation 3. It
feels like those of us who have to wait until 19th November 2020 to get our
hands on the PS5 are the worst off. With the system launching today across the
US, users had to wait just two days between the two releases. Everywhere else,
Assassin's Creed Valhalla came out nine days before the next-gen machine. You
could be 50 hours into the experience by that point! Deputy Editor Robert Ramsey
already is! So, if you've already invested the same amount of time into the
game, going back and unlocking all those Trophies once more sounds like a real
chore. Do you find yourself in the same predicament? Were you hoping Trophy
lists would be combined across PS4 and PS5 versions? And will you replay parts
of Assassin's Creed Valhalla just to guarantee yourself a Platinum Trophy?
